    Ryan,

I am sorry the assholes at Facebook deleted you. I hope we can stay in touch, you are a very special guy! I will miss seeing you on FB a lot, but hopefully we can stay in touch.

    Thanks!
    Eric

It's happened to me three times, once with my own account, and another time with a pen name I use for other fiction I write. And each time there was no valid reason. I didn't post anything wrong or do anything wrong. In my case I'm sure it was because I'm gay and someone didn't like that.

It's just that facebook has this ridiculous policy where all it takes is one report to get someone's account deleted. If they don't start focusing more on public relations like this, they may find that more companies like General Motors are going to pull their advertising accounts in time.

I will miss you. I've loved your post as they often made my day. I'd call the person or persons assholes, but an asshole is needed to live and the jerk that reported you sure isn't needed for anything'

I checked their standards, and what they say is really vague.

"Facebook has a strict policy against the sharing of pornographic content and imposes limitations on the display of nudity. At the same time, we aspire to respect people’s right to share content of personal importance, whether those are photos of a sculpture like Michelangelo's David or family photos of a child breastfeeding."

How do they define "pornographic content?"

"[L]imitations" must mean that some nudity can be okay, but there is no way of telling what it is, and no way of telling what's not okay until they delete it or you.

Shannon Boh — http://aussiespacetimetraveller.com/ — has had trouble, too. He posted a picture of himself in a "jock sox," and it was deleted. But they seem to have no problem with rear views of young women with enormous butts wearing thong bikinis. He considers it homophobia.

That really sucks Ryan & as you know, the same thing happened to me, so I know the feeling. Facebook really has to change it's policy and not just delete a persons account because some asshole complains without investigating the complaint first and as for the haters who report ppl in the first place, I hope they get a taste of their own medicine.

I miss you on fb as I know a lot of people do, so I hope you decide to come back and not let the haters win...take care Ryan :)

  6. Hey Ryan. Not sure if you got my email from last night or not (tweeted at you too). I totally understand you not wanting to make another page and it pisses me off that people reported you since you never put up anything nasty in my opinion. *sigh* Well, guess you'll be getting more emails an tweets from me then from now on.

Eh, I agree and disagree with FB. I had some problems occasionally with some of your posts because I like to check the news feed during the day. There were times it was NSFW. I wouldn't ever report you, but you knew the limits there. Here you have far fewer. Please don't be mad at me for speaking my mind a bit. I hope to stay in touch here, Twitter, and maybe we can chat some time.

    Peace, friend <3
    Jay

Ryan, FB's policies are pretty clear. You seem to delight in pushing the limits, and now you seem pissed that your account was finally deleted. Oh well.

There are many, many, many of us (surely a couple of thousand) FB users all over the world. What? Millions, you say? Well, most of us can abide by their rules without a problem.

I seem to recall that you have deleted comments on this here blog that you thought were inappropriate. So I don't understand why you begrudge FB the same privilege.

Perhaps you should grow up. Or, alternatively, start your own social networking website and allow whatever you want. Maybe you can get people to start using YOUR site and drop FB.

Oh, and by the way? There are ALWAYS going to be "haters" out there. Always. How you deal with them says more about you than it does about them.

Best of luck in your post-FB life. But for a lot of us, FB is still the best way to keep in touch with friends and relatives. And yeah, it sucks that it's not more like gay.com or A4A.
